    Backstory

This lot represents an experimental washed process first developed at Yambamine—Chorora’s sister farm—by Rene Vélez. The process uses CO2 and cascara to kickstart fermentation, combining scientific precision with natural depth. It’s now replicated at Chorora with beautiful results.

Olinka Vélez runs Chorora on the slopes of the Loja highlands, beside the old Inca Road overlooking the Macará Valley. Since 2010, she and her sister Diana have transitioned from urban lives to full-time coffee producers, dedicating themselves to farming and innovation. Together, their farms span eight hectares planted with Sidra, Typica Mejorado, and new experimental varieties like Pink Bourbon and Wush Wush.

A small research lab is under construction on the farm, focused on microbial fermentation, new processing methods, and varietal development. Chorora and Yambamine are becoming known for their radical transparency, experimental mindset, and standout quality.
