A small snap. A thoughtful approach to brewing.
At Standout Coffee, we look for brewing tools that help reveal the character of the coffees we select. Snap™ caught our attention because it brings a new way to manage saturation and agitation during a pour-over: a repeatable mechanical snap.
Drawing on 18 years of professional brewing experience, with a design refined through computational fluid dynamics, Snap™ is built to support sweetness, clarity, smoothness, and consistency.
What makes Snap™ different
Alongside the brewer’s shape and your pouring technique, Snap™ introduces an active mechanical system. A spring-loaded knocker delivers an impulse through the brewer and into the coffee bed.
Each snap is designed to help release trapped CO₂ and air, improve saturation, and settle the bed without stirring or swirling. This gives you another way to influence the brew, with the number and timing of snaps adjusted to suit the coffee.
The aim is more uniform brewing—and a balanced cup that lets the coffee’s sweetness and individual flavours come through clearly.
Designed from the coffee bed out
Snap™ uses a 58° angle to create a deeper coffee bed and increase the effect of the snap through the slurry.
Curved internal vents encourage the wet filter paper to adhere closely to the brewer walls through capillary adhesion. This geometry is designed to reduce bypass—the water that travels around the coffee bed—while maintaining channels for CO₂ and air to escape.
These details work together to support even saturation, a consistent bloom, and greater control throughout the brew.
Getting started with Snap™
Use this as a starting point, then adjust to the coffee, grind size, and cup you want:
-
Seat your filter using the included Negotiator and wet the paper.
-
Bloom with 2.5–3 times the weight of your coffee. For a 15 g dose, that means 37.5–45 g of water.
-
Allow 20–25 seconds for the bloom.
-
Apply four snaps after the bloom.
-
Continue your pour-over recipe, then apply four snaps near the end of the brew.
The snap adds another variable to explore. Keep your dose, grind, water temperature, and pouring pattern consistent while adjusting snap timing or count, so you can taste what each change brings.

Filter fit matters
Every Snap™ includes the Negotiator, a filter-shaping tool that helps seat SNAP x SIBARIST filters or other 60° V-shaped filters into the brewer’s geometry. Better wall contact during wetting helps the filter work with the brewer’s design.
Recommended filters:
-
SNAP x SIBARIST
-
CAFEC Abaca White
-
Hario V60
-
Origami Cone M
The manufacturer advises avoiding CAFEC T-series filters, as their flow characteristics can restrict the Snap™ brewing system.
Why we selected it
Snap™ offers a thoughtful way to explore how saturation, gas release, and bed settling affect flavour. For brewers who enjoy fine-tuning a recipe, it brings a tactile, repeatable action into the process.
Pair it with a coffee you know well, start with the recommended snap sequence, and let the cup guide your next adjustment.
