5 Coffee Hacks Every Coffee Slayer Should Know!

Hey 👋 It's Oskar here, CEO of Standout Coffee, and I'm excited to share some of my favorite coffee hacks

These are the little tricks and tips that can take your coffee brewing game to the next level and extract more out of your overall coffee experience. So, grab your favorite brew filter and let's dive into these specialty coffee hacks that are sure to bloom the hell out of your cup of coffee!

Use Freshly Roasted Beans for Optimal Flavor:

There's nothing quite like the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. Trust me; it's a game-changer. It’s like finding that rare magical sword in your favorite hack and slash game and going back to the final boss!

To experience the full flavor potential of specialty coffee, always opt for freshly roasted beans. Look for the roast date on the packaging and aim for beans that are no more than a few weeks old. This ensures that you're savoring the vibrant flavors and aromas that come with freshly roasted goodness.

-I clearly remember the first time I tried coffee made from freshly roasted beans. It was back in 2008 and I just started my coffee journey. The fresh acidic notes are a something that I until this day look for in every single cup of specialty coffee I drink.

This is actually something that we at Standout Coffee has in our company DNA that all orders are roasted on demand to strive to get our beans as fresh as possible to the coffee community around the globe.

Grind Your Beans Just Before Brewing:

If you're looking to level up your coffee game, invest in a good quality burr grinder. Grinding your beans just before brewing ensures maximum flavor extraction. When coffee beans are exposed to air, they start losing their freshness and aroma. By grinding on demand, you're preserving those precious flavors that we all live for to try.

-I remember when I first upgraded to a burr grinder, a grinder from HARIO, later upgraded to the famous EK43. The difference in taste was incredible! The aroma was more intense, and the flavors were so much more pronounced. It's spectacular how a simple change in grinding technique can make such a big impact.

Experiment with Water Temperature:

Water temperature plays a crucial role in extracting the perfect flavors from your specialty coffee. While the ideal temperature range is between 195°F (90°C) and 205°F (96°C), don't be afraid to experiment to find your sweet spot. Some coffees may shine with a slightly lower temperature, while others may require a bit more heat. It's all about finding what works best for the beans you're brewing.

Embrace the Power of the Double Bloom:

When it comes to brewing methods like pour-over, the way you pour the water can significantly impact the flavor of your coffee.

At Standout Coffee we have used the V60 recipe called the Double Bloom for a year now, it’s a super solid brew recipe that hits the spot between a more advanced recipe and an everyday use one. You can find the link to the brew recipe here:

Enjoy the Journey:

Last, but certainly not least, remember to enjoy the process. Specialty coffee is a beautiful and ever-evolving world. Explore, experiment, and challenge each cup. Discovering new flavors, learning from your mistakes, and celebrating your successes is what makes the journey so exciting.

-The number one reason for me being in this industry for over 15 years now is the ongoing strive for the perfect cup of coffee. Even if I try it, I know that there is always a next harvest, another roast to try or a better process. Keep challenging yourself, be picky and push us as roasters to make the most out of the coffee, but at the same time just sit back, relax and enjoy this black gold that we call coffee.
