Amount of coffee

High in the hills outside San Agustín in Huila, Victor and Alejandro Ortega cultivate coffee on a small three-hectare farm called La Esmeralda, sitting at 1,730 meters above sea level. Here, father and son work side by side — continuing a family tradition shaped by patience, dedication, and a deep connection to the land.

This lot is Pink Bourbon / Rosado, a variety known for its clarity and elegant acidity. The cherries are selectively harvested at peak ripeness every two weeks, then carefully depulped and dry-fermented before being washed and slowly dried on raised beds. The process is simple but precise — allowing the character of the variety and the place to remain fully intact.

Taste description: In the cup you’ll find delicate florals layered with ripe stone fruit and citrus brightness. Notes of peach, red berries and orange zest and cane sugar.

The acidity is lively and elegant, giving the coffee a vibrant structure while the body remains silky and composed, finishing clean with lingering fruit sweetness.

The People Behind the Coffee

Alejandro Ortega grew up surrounded by coffee. His father Victor has long been part of a group of small producers working to find better markets for quality coffee, though for many years their harvest was simply blended into larger lots with little recognition of the work behind it.

Like many young producers in Colombia, Alejandro once had to take a job outside the farm to help support his family. Yet coffee remained central to his life.

As he describes it:

“Coffee has taught me how to be a better person — how to have patience and to do things with dedication and love.”

Today, Victor and Alejandro continue to develop their coffees together, focusing on quality and building relationships that allow their work to be appreciated more directly.
