Process: Washed, eco-pulper, soaked 12h, dried 9–14 days on raised beds

This washed Ethiopian lot from the Telila station in Gera, Jimma is everything we love about the country’s coffees: elegant florals, layered fruit, and striking clarity. It’s one of the cleanest Ethiopia profiles we tasted this harvest year.

    Cup Profile

In the cup we find classic Ethiopian notes of peach, elderflower lemonade, and bergamot, lifted by brighter tropical fruits and a floral citrus character that defines the Gera region. The structure is clean, with a refreshing finish that keeps unfolding.

    Producer & Origin

Telila washing station is owned and managed by Mike Mamo, located at 2000 masl in Kecho Anderacha, Gera. The surrounding smallholder farmers deliver their cherries from the Genji Challa Kebele. Varieties here are Gibirinna 74110 and Serto 74112, selected in the 1970s by JARC for their resistance to coffee berry disease and now widely grown in the region.

    Process

Cherries are carefully handpicked and floated to remove defects. They are depulped with an eco-pulper, then soaked in clean water for twelve hours before being dried on raised beds for 9–14 days. Each day’s deliveries are processed separately, giving maximum traceability. Once dried, parchment is stored in hermetically sealed bags — a pioneering step for Ethiopia that ensures consistency and quality over time.

Mike and the Telila team are pushing quality standards in Jimma, producing washed, honey, natural, and anaerobic lots with the same precision. Genji Challa is one of their standout washed selections this season — a reminder of why Ethiopia remains the reference point for washed coffee clarity.
